Daytime Makeup to NIghtime Makeup

So you did a simple everyday makeup look and now you have dinner plans. How on earth are you going to take this basic look and glam it up for a night out?

Actually really easily... I am going to use my today's makeup look as the base which you can find here, it was a simple one tone eyeshadow look and a tinted lip balm. Nothing huge but I've set the ground work for a great nighttime look.

Start with a simple black line. Nothing brings out evening like black liner, and if you are a pro you can even add a little flick and go retro with it. If your not a pro, no worries, do a messy black line along your lash lines and then either take your finger or a smudge brush and smudge it up. Don't forget to refresh/darken your mascara here too!

Next let's highlight baby! For evening because there is less light I usually like to use a more shimmery highlighter so it really catches the light. Highlight where you would normally for your face and then onto the last step.

Lips! Lips! LIPS! Nothing brings a makeup look into the evening then a darker or bolder lip colour. For this makeup look I was wearing a red tinted lip balm so I decided to keep with the red and just do a dramatic red lip. I could've also gone with a paler lip or a nude and still had the same evening look. I just was feeling the red. So it isn't about the colour but the contrast. Is your lip colour contrasting/complementing your makeup look in a bolder way than it did during the day? If yes then your good to go!

So there you have it. Daytime to nighttime in 10min or less :D

Okay... so I did add some more blusher and a little concealer but really those 3 steps above are the key steps to bring a look to evening. I decided to go with the smudged liner because you can see what a flicked liner looks like here. So go check that out if your not feeling the smokey look to the eyes.

SO... I actually timed myself and it only took me 5min to do this which is fab if your in a hurry but still want to touch up your makeup before going out.

Red Lips and Gold Eyeshadow

So keeping with the sleep deprived need of simple makeup pattern I decided to go with a two-toned makeup look. Gold eyeshadow with a faded red lip stain.

I wanted the combine the bold colours with a faded picture kind of feel. Nothing super overpowering, but still a metallic gold eye and red lip none the less. I made sure my checks were really rosy as well to extenuate how pale my skin is, again playing up that faded photograph colour scheme.

I debate over a black winged liner for a long time, because I really felt that style of liner would bring out a retro feel again amplifying the old photograph colours. Though this would bring out a retro feel I decided I wanted to stay modern with the overall makeup and just use the colours to "age" it as it were.

I did some editing to the pictures and photoshoped an extreme faded colour look. I posted the original of one the pictures beside an edited one so you could still get the feel of the makeup, even without the added effect. Even in the original photo the colour is off... I am not that yellow in real life swear! lol! This look was really simple and beautiful and I found the faded tones of red and blended gold made it very everyday. It'd also be really easy to bring it into a night look by adding that black liner and a bolder red lip. Maybe throw some false lashes in there too. hehe.

Im thinking for tomorrow I will do that blue everyday look I promised you on saturday in my Modern Take on Blue Eyeshadow makeup look. It will be a simple smokey brown look with blue accents. Look forward to it.

Simple Pale Pink Lips and Fab Black Liner

So I'll admit it the next couple days' looks might be lacking in their usual dramatic flair. Between sick kids and a busy schedule I'll be lucky to get makeup on let alone nice enough makeup to show you guys haha!

Today's look actually came to be due to a couple new products I managed to get my hands on. Most of them from maybelline actually... mhmm been obsessed with their new lines lately :P

Here is the look I ended up throwing together this morning!

Products Used

  • Under eye concealer by Almay
  • Maybelline Colour Pearls eyeshadow in sinful sinnamon
  • Sext Curve Mascara by Rimmel
  • Aveeno positively radiant moisturizer
  • Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Peach Satin
  • Fit Me Foundation and concealer by maybelline
  • Lise Watier eyebrow essentials in 618 blondes
  • L'oreal Colour Riche LeGloss in 151 baby blossom
  • Gosh Velvet touch eye primer
  • Maybelline baby lips in pink punch
  • Maybelline Line Stiletto liquid liner

If you have never seen the colour pearls eyeshadow they are this wonky mis-mash of colours on one side and then a solid colour on the other. At first the pearled colour scared me and I wasn't really sure how to use it, but when you treat it just like a lighter colour to a darker crease/liner colour you can get a really cool dimension to your eyes with very little effort. I also have the tantalizing teal colours and love the frosty effect it gives the eyes.

If your looking for a quick easy (but still have some flair) eyeshadow palette I totally recommend these! With a great little winged black liner this makeup look has a really pulled together effect but a 5min timer.

If your not a fan of the black liner (or your still learning how to do it and it takes forever) Try using an angled liner brush and the darker colour along you lash line. You still get some great definition but the more smudged and messy the better this will look. So no perfectionists allowed!

Hope you liked the look and the tips! Have a beautiful day.

Maybelline's Baby Lips

Peppermint Baby Lips by Maybelline
OH NO! My lip balm ran out and winter time is killing my lips. So off to the store I trotted to buy some more of my go too lip balm. As I was doing my normal scan of the beauty isles before grabing my lip balm and heading home I spotted "Baby Lips". I had been reading/hearing so much about this product and just so happened to be in need of some lip balm.

Dare I switch it up and try out this new product? Sure! What could I lose.

I decided to go for peppermint because I was looking for a replacement of my clear lip balm anyways, and who doesn't love minty fresh lips? I've only had this product for a day so long-term results pending (it is advertised to give you "baby soft lips" in 4 weeks) I love this product. It is so nice to apply, doesn't feel waxy or wet, and really does moisturize deep down into my lips. The clear colours are a great base to any lip colour. When I get my hands on some more of the colours (totally wishing I had just bought them back at the store grr) I will let you know what I think of them. This is just a quickie first impression of this product, but if it continues to stay this amazing and the colours are super cute I highly doubt my opinion will be anything but uber impressed!

So if you haven't picked up some "Baby Lips" yet I suggest you do and we can all have great youthful lips 4 weeks from now! ;)

See you then with my much more in-deth review of this great product!

LOTD Modern take on Blue Eyeshadow

Blue is a gorgeous colour, but when it comes to putting it on your eyes almost everyone shies away from it. Now I don't blame them, if done wrong you can look like someone lost in the 80's. When done right it can be a playful, fun, youthful make-up look.

Products Used

  • Under eye concealer by Almay
  • Wet n Wild colour icon palette in "On Cloud Nine"
  • Sext Curve Mascara by Rimmel
  • Aveeno positively radiant moisturizer
  • Cover Girl blusher in Classic Pink
  • Fit Me Foundation and concealer by maybelline
  • Lise Watier eyebrow essentials in 618 blondes
  • Body Shop Lipstick in #68 (it's an orange colour)
  • Gosh Velvet touch eye primer
  • Maybelline baby lips in peppermint

Today's Demonstration of blue eyeshadow is a very young look, and I have to admit probably won't be an everyone kind of look. It's fun, bright and very pastel. Don't worry though tomorrow's make-up plan is a fresh neutral way of wearing blue eyeshadow. Really today's eyeshadow was from my desire to wear my orange lipstick in a bold pastel look.

I really have been in love with blue lately so you will probably see it in alot of upcoming looks. :D

Hope you enjoyed this LOTD. Check back again soon for my opinion on maybelline's newest buzz item the fabulous baby lips!

LOTD Jessica Alba Inspired Make Up

Who doesn't like a good celeb inspired make-up. They always have the best of the best working on these looks it'd be insulting to NOT to try and imitate it. I was just browsing through google at general make-up pictures and ran across this stunning picture of jessica alba. Browns, and golds everywhere. Jessica's trade-mark sun kissed skin *muah!* masterpiece. I just had to try it, but adapt it for us that are a little paler then the beautiful Jessica. So here is my warm bronzy neutral smokey make-up look adapted to a lighter skin tone.

Gorgeous right? This look really is perfect for every skin tone, skin type, hair colour, and eye colour. Anyone can wear it and look drop dead gorgeous! This is a classic go to style of make-up that I fall back on all the time. Natural, sultry, sexy, and really easy.

Products Used

  • Under eye concealer by Almay
  • Various colours from a large Wal-mart brand gift palette
  • Sext Curve Mascara by Rimmel
  • Aveeno positively radiant moisturizer
  • Summer Eclipse bronzer in moonlight
  • Fit Me Foundation and concealer by maybelline

The plan is later today, when my husband is home to rodeo children I will be filming my first make-up video tutorial. I wanted to start off with a look anyone could wear, and any one could apply. I am not sure when This video will actually hit youtube but stay tuned for it, because it should be on it's way eventually :)

Thanks for all the support and love. I hope to continue to grow my experience and bring you even better quality video's and make-up looks in the near future!

How to Exfoliate your Lips

Skin care this and skin care that, but what about the skin on your lips?

It kinda feels like no one mentions this very important area that needs some TLC as well. Taking care of your lips is very important! Nice lush lips can help you look younger, hold colour longer, and generally look better when you use product on them.

I did up a quick video explaining how I care for my lips.

Enjoy the pointers and send me comments/pictures of the lip colours you played with after taking care of your lips!!

Long Lasting Lipstick review (revlon, rimmel, covergirl, and maybelline)

So the results are in!

Some were disappointments, some were worth it just because their colour was so amazing, and others were the most amazing thing ever!

left to right maybelline superstay 10hr fresh fuchsia, rimmel lasting finish lipstick paradise,  revlon colourstay ultimate liquid lipstick top tomato, and covergirl long lasting lipcolour hottie

Revlon colour stay ultimate liquid lipstick

Which I used for my Marilyn Munroe Make-up Look. Click the link for how the lipstick looked! Now at first I loved this lipstick. The colour Top Tomato was simply breath-taking, and was exactly what I was looking for out of a red lipstick. When I did the long lasting swatch test on my hand this stayed on my hand no problem for a whole day and night. So I knew it had staying power! Let's see if it does as well on the dehydrating test!

It originally didn't feel very drying at all, actually I was timid at first of kissing my kids checks because of how wet my lips still felt. Though after eating and drinking coffee I realized I was just being silly there was no transfer. I did need to add some moisturizing lip balm halfway through (around the 4hr mark) but that was it. At about the 7hr mark if I wasn't ready to remove my makeup I would of had to reapply the colour, but 7 hours with only 1 lip balm application is not bad at all.

Score Card

Long Lasting A+
Colour A+
Hydrating B

Overall Grade A
I will use this product again, and I will probably go and buy some more colours. It worked fabulously and didn't feel dry to wear actually it felt almost sticky glass-like when on my lips.

Rimmel lasting finish lipstick

Used in my Natural Earthy-Toned Make-up Look this colour shone! I was originally going to buy a nude from this product line but this earthy brown colour was too irresistible. In the swatch test this one did not make it very long at all. After just a couple hours it was fading, and even at the beginning it would smudge and transfer easily. Needless to say it was gone before bedtime. (I don't know the exact time it wore off)

When I wore this it was fabulous no more drying then a regular lipstick and it went on soo smoothly. After the swatch test I didn't have high hopes for this product at all. I ate, I drank, I ate some more... colour was still there! What? It did fad slightly but the colour was still very much there. After about 3hrs though I did need to reapply the colour because my natural lip colour was starting to show a little more then I wanted. 6hrs of wearing this colour and my lips are still very hydrated and I didn't need lip balm all day.

Score Card

Long Lasting C+
Colour A
Hydrating A+

Overall Grade B
Seeing as this needed as much maintenance as revlon (be it colour or lip balm I needed to apply something halfway through wearing) and did just as well during eating and drinking I'd say it did pretty well. I will be using this lipstick again and I might buy more colours. Overall pretty good for the only long lasting (actual) lipstick.

Maybelline 10hr lip gloss

Bright colour oh how I love you! This fresh fuchsia was not as bright as I was expecting (actually it was very luscious over bright) but still very beautiful! I used it in my first How to wear bright lipstick post and loved how to colour looked on me. On the swatch test this was if not the best for staying power.  It was very bright and vibrant even after a whole day and night. I actually had to use makeup remover to get it off my arm.

So let's talk smell... umm amazing! This is a true form lip gloss. When applied it feels like lip gloss, when opened it smells like lip gloss, and it most definitely is not sticky like lip gloss! Now it says 10hr but I'll only give it 7hrs. Which isn't bad considering I didn't need any lip balm and my lips felt great almost the entire time. I had 2 meals and lots of drinks during that 7hrs and it held up perfectly the entire time.

Score Card

Long Lasting A+
Colour A
Hydrating A+

Overall Grade A+
So far this is my favourite product! I will most definitely go and buy more colours and suggest this to everyone! It is the first true to it's name long-wear lip gloss I have encountered that is actually gloss not lipstick parading as gloss. Even though I didn't need too I just wanted to put more on because of how yummy it smelled! Plus the added no need for lip balm just the one application of product for 7hrs! FABULOUS!!!

Cover Girl outlast all-day lipcolour

Me and this product have had it out before. I bought it when it first came out and absolutely hated wearing it. Someone told me that they aren't as bad as they once were so I had to give it a fair running and wipe the slate clean. In my swatch test this was the clear winner. It would not come off my arm no matter how hard I scrubbed or what product I used. (is that really a good thing?) On my arm the colour looked somewhat shear but I just did it quick so I didn't make any judgements yet.

Maybe I just picked a dud colour but the "hottie" colour was so sheer it took numerous coats to get it to really show up on my lips. You can see the lip colour in my Pin-Up Makeup Look. Which is a major negative to me seeing as I started this search for a good long lasting lip colour to subdue my pigmented natural lip. So after the third coat I had colour, and it was a nice colour. My lips instantly started to feel like I had cling warped them though. I threw on the moisturizing balm that comes with the product and, "aaaaahhhh" relief my lips felt normal.

It lasted 8hrs on my lips with no need for more moisturizer or reapplication of colour. My lips did start to feel kinda crumbly, but not until the very end of the day. I think I probably could of avoided this with some more moisturizer, but I wanted to see how few applications I could get away with.

Score Card

Long Lasting A+
Colour C
Hydrating C+

Overall Grade B-
Yes, it has gotten better from when this product was first launched. I will give it that accolade, but being better than you once were isn't really a reward. It did however do everything it claimed to and didn't need reapplication or moisturizer. It did however make my lips feel itchy after a little while, and need multiple coats to get a vivid colour. (and I mean put a coat on, dry and repeat 3x) I love this colour though and even with the 3x coats I would probably buy this product again just for that purple colour.

Overall Favourites

The maybelline 10hr lip gloss. I loved this product and it left me desperately wanting more. More colours, and more products from maybelline's other long lasting lines. I was soo surprised at how lip glossy this product was. I love lip gloss but hate sticky lips and this is the perfect solution to that.

This is a competition of lipstick though, and even though I love the lip gloss product it ended up actually being a lip gloss. (which I was not expecting) So as far as more matte finish lipsticks I am going to have to award Revlon colourstay ultimate liquid lipstick with the grand winner prize!

GRAND WINNER:     Revlon Colourstay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick

This was a really fun competition to do and I hope to do more in the near future. I will be trying to get my hands on Maybelline's other long wear products to see if they are just as wonderful as the gloss, so keep an eye out for those reviews in the near future.

Ode to the No Makeup Makeup Look

So a couple days ago  while cooking for my sweet children I had some oil splash up and get me around the outer corner of my right eye. It didn't bug me at all the whole rest of the day, that night, or when I was putting on makeup the next morning. Then as the day went on and my eye kept watering like crazy and just seemed generally irritated with me I began to wonder what was up. So after removing my makeup I noticed a red spot around where the oil had splashed me and put 2 and 2 together.

Today just to give my eye one more day to heal I decided to do a very natural no make-up makeup look. Enjoy the look today, and stay tuned at around lunch time I should have my long lasting lipstick review (click the link to see which products I am reviewing) completed and posted by then!

This look was a good break for my face. I went for a dewy, light and bright complexion. Really rosy cheeks, a fun coral lip, and lashes lashes lashes. I was actually inspired by an old Elle cover of Emma Watson. It was really pretty, light and young.

Would you believe I only used moisturizer, and concealer on my face? (okay blusher and some contouring too ssshhh) Actually it was 2 coats of moisturizer and 1 coat of tinted moisturizer. I really wanted a dewy glow and felt my dry skin was just not gunna work that out for me. So I really lathered up and wow can I see a difference my skin is glowing! I will have to double up (or get a better moisturizer) more often!

I always feel so young when I do these kinds of soft makeup looks because I am very fresh faced and happen to be the ridiculous kind of tiny. (that's right 4'11 is all I've got haha)

That's just my personal preference though for my face, if you were to ask my husband he'd say it's his favourite way for me to do my make-up.

Products Used

  • L'Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes
  • Rimmel Sexy Curl Waterproof mascara
  • Aveeno positively radient moisturizer tinted and regular
  • Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush
  • Maybelline 24hr Colour tattoo eyeshadow in too cool (highlighting)
  • No-Name Bronzer (doesn't list product name on package)
  • Maybelline Colour Sensational High Shine Lipstick in Coral Lustre
  • Mary Kay Nourishine Lip Gloss (the colour wasn't listed on product sorry x.x)

Enjoy this no make-up make-up look and stay turned to tomorrow!

Lycra Lash Extender Mascara Review

Q: Did this mascara curl my lashes?
A: Yes it did.

Q: Did it hold the curl?
A: No not really.

For a quick one step mascara I have to say this mascara did not pass. It did add extra curl to my already curled lashes and had a pretty nice finish though. Not too much in the flakey department and lasted all day. My curl though did not last as long as the mascara. After recurling my lashes 3 times I decided they were destined to fall flat forever.

The lengthening of this mascara was very noticeable and beautiful. I felt like my already long lashes went on forever! If you keep applying coat after coat it did get a little clumpy, but those first couple coats went on very smooth. The eyelash wand was pretty easy to use and felt really stock to me. Nothing special but nothing bad either.

Overall this was a decent mascara. If you don't have issue with curling your lashes then you will probably love this mascara, because it does curl a little bit without an eyelash curler and your lashes will get an extreme length boost.

Will I buy it again though?  No, I think I am going to continue to hunt for a mascara that can actually hold a curl in my lashes. I will continue to use it if I need a length boost though, because it did this part of it's job extremely well!

Pin-Up Makeup but Purple Look Of The Day

This is a really simple look, because this morning I have places to go and things to do. So I needed a quick easy makeup look. I also had a really great purple lip colour I was just dying to use.

SO....

How can I do a quick, easy makeup look and a bold lip? Pin-up anyone! What is easier then a quick swipe of liner with a little flick at the end and lips? Nothing. I know retro pin-up usually involves pink or red lips but lately anything has been going with that simple black liner.

After that was decided it took me no time at all to whip out this makeup and head out the door :) So if your in a crunch for a makeup look fall back on that great classic black liner and a lip of your choice.

What a quick, easy look and I loved it. The funky lip colour really added a fun flirty pop to this classic style. I wish the close ups of my lip colour worked better :( so you could of at least seen the purple colour... Oh well not much I can do now. This was also the last lipstick in my long-wear lipstick competition ! Can't wait to finish up that review and post it for you guys. I must say for being a long wear lipstick hater, there are some good products out there now.

Have a great day and I hope you've been enjoying my Look Of The Day posts.

Teal Cateye Liner... Meow!

I've been kinda been obsessed with the concept of changing your eye shape with your liner shape... How you wing out your liner or how far you bring into your inner corner can drastically change your eyes shape.

One of this springs makeup trends happens to be bold colour liner. Which is probably where this insane interest came from for me. I have been seeing the coolest shaped lining of eyes I've ever encountered before, and not only only was the liner shape amazing the models eyes were striking.

So I wanted to try changing the shape of my eyes with liner. I didn't do anything crazy, because I didn't want to overwhelm this post. I kept my liner design fairly simple and blended but did try to change the shape of my eye with it. (maybe a drastic liner look is in the near future... hmm who knows!)

My eyes are down turned which doesn't mean much makeup wise but I find that a sexy cat eye is a little harder to achieve because of this. So that was the eye shape change I was going for I wanted to raise the outer corner and lower my inner corner to give that sexy cat shape effect.

Bold Lipstick Makeup Look
can you see the difference in eye shape?
I was a little bit dramatic with how much I lowered and raised, because I really wanted you guys to be able to see a drastic difference in my eye shape. Essentially I smoked out the rest of the colour so I decided to do a pale pink lip, because thats my favourite way to do a smokey eye. Though instead of just bronzing my checks I added a peachy warm glow to contrast the cool tones on my eyes and lips.

I really feel that bringing down the liner in my inner corners made this look. I normally don't like winged liner on me at all, but I am in love with how sexy my eyes look right now. Which is a total first with winged liner. I can't wait to try different liner experiments creating
different shapes.

Here is a quick reference picture of different eye shapes, so you have a clearer idea of what I was talking about.

Im hoping to do a series on different eye shapes and ways to enhance your shape or how to change it. I think that will be a really fun idea... so stay tuned for that not sure when it is going to pop up!

Tomorrow's makeup is mostly likely going to be a punky pin-up look. I have this great violet lipstick I just have to try, but I don't want to go to over board on my eyes so I decided to go with a sexy black pin-up liner. It is going to be an edgy look but still a very wearable way to do a funky coloured lip :D

Barbie Inspired Makeup

Bright lips look #2 --> click here for look #1

Yesterday's look was about making these lip colours a little bit more everyday and wearable. Today is all about having fun and just working it out, and what is more fun than barbie? She is glittery, bright, colourful, and over the top! So this look is all about really bright colours, sparkles everywhere, cheesy colour combos, and artificially perfect skin! Well barbie isn't perfect but she is made of plastic so plastic looking skin here we come!

I had so much fun planning this look! I hope it shows. Here's my final result.

Before I show off the full look I wanted to talk some details! Now I know I could of been really simple and just slapped pink mono tone eyeshadow on my lid and that would've been good enough. I wasn't going for good enough though. I wanted to have makeup that was like barbie's but also something I would want to recreate again. I hunted high and low for a picture of barbie with makeup I liked and I found one (will post below) She didn't have just pink eyeshadow she had light pink on her lid, brown to create a crease (barbie has a monolid who knew!) and then above her crease she had hot pink to emphasize that crease. For liner unlike black it was actually brown and barely there. It was really just used to make her lashes look fuller. (lashes... umm well not really but you get the idea) I used sparkly white for my highlighter and bam! Curl and mascara, the look was done. This look was alot of fun and I could totally see myself wearing it again!

So how'd I do? Am I a barbie doll? I was going to say there is no way you could wear this makeup look out and about because of how bright the eyes and lips are. I think I was wrong to make that kind of assumption. Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, and Katey Perry do it all the time! So if your style is bold go  for it!

When I was doing up my foundation I as really careful to do a nice full coverage and exact contouring. Barbie is a doll after all, so I made the contouring and highlighting really bold and unrealistic looking. If I were to wear this look again I might not be so exact. I like my freckles and a softer checkbone. (chubby checks are soo cute!) Other than that though I don't think I would change a thing!

I really want to try this look with blue on my eyes to see how a contrasting colour would look! That will be an even bolder look!

Barbie was a great inspiration, and I couldn't be happier with this look! Stay tuned for tomorrow.... Im feeling some love for TEAL. Wonder what I will create with that colour. :D
